Massive Swing from Lib Dems to Labour in Chesterfield

Labour gained 23 seats from the Lib Dems in the Chesterfield Borough Council Elections, turning a 11-37 deficit into a 34-14 victory. The photo shows Councillor John Burrows the new leader of the council celebrating with his grandchildren Oliver and Jacob. On May Day he also made significant contributions to this meeting on Adult Education. Well done John and the Chesterfield Labour Party.

Now that was an excellent result. Not a bad night for Labour in England and Wales. Not brilliant overall but quite a bit to celebrate and a lot to think about.

jams o donnell : I have just spent a weekend at Scarborough with Independent Labour Publications where the "Refounding Labour" consultative document was one of our main discussion issues. The ILP have a web-site.

I will now raise the issue at my Labour Party Branch Meeting on Wednesday and we still have time to follow this up at the June meeting. It is then the topic for discussion at the next meeting of our Labour Party Discussion Group (which isn't restricted to Party members) on Sunday Evening. What we come up with is likely to emerge in time on the blog "Dronfield Blather" and here.
